Hyperplastic Polyp of the Esophagus and Esophago-gastric Junction
Definition
- Polyp of the esophagus or EGJ predominantly composed of hyperplastic epithelium
Diagnostic Criteria
- Predominantly epithelial hyperplasia
- Gastric foveolar
- Esophageal squamous
- Mixtures
- Stromal inflammation and granulation tissue may be present
- If predominant, designate as an inflammatory polyp
- Nearly all in distal esophagus or EGJ
- Frequently associated with ulcer or erosive esophagitis
- May be associated and/or contain intestinal metaplasia
- No reports of dysplasia arising in the polyps
- Some of the polyps reported by Long 2011 may be included here
